Frequently Asked Questions

"What if I don't have the time for coaching?"

Yeah, you probably don’t. Between work and other obligations, you may not have the time. If you have a second job, it may be even more difficult. And any free time you do have, you just want to get a moment of sleep to just shut down and decompress for a few minutes.

Not to mention if you have kids. You have to get them ready, fed, and out the door for school. Get shit done while they’re at school. Then you have to pick them up. Drive them to soccer practice. Do whatever you need to do before you pick them up to get them home for piano lessons or pick up your other child from gymnastics practice. Then get dinner ready.

If you’re lucky enough to have a partner, you guys are doing what you can to support each other. But find it’s still not enough and feel like you’re just stuck in a hamster wheel. And no matter how hard you try, you can’t get off.

You’re too busy taking care of everybody else at home, at work, for your community and extracurriculars…So when do you have the time to invest or give time for yourself to just even breathe?

One of the principles I coach my clients is, ‘You don’t have time, you create time.’

Part of the reason you’re even reading this is because you’re ‘sick and tired’ of being ‘sick and tired’ and you need answers and help to get your life back.

So then the question becomes, ‘When do I get to choose me?’ ‘When do I get to give myself time?’

Well the time is now!

No one is going to choose to help you unless you choose yourself first.

Choose yourself now, you will gain the tools, accountability, and guidance to get your time and energy back. Re-establish your purpose, your passions. Feel what it’s like to get your Soul back.

If you don’t choose ‘you’, you choose staying on that hamster wheel. You choose to stay in the stress, the anger, frustration, sadness, or depression. You choose to be in continual survival and crisis mode.

Staying in survival and crisis mode, if it hasn’t already, will start to affect your physical wellbeing.

What you get to understand is that at some point in your life you will have to deal with your mental, emotional, or even physical wellbeing and health.

The question then becomes, do you want to invest your time and energy on it now? Or do you want to pay for it later, on the back end?

Your choice…

"I don't think I need a coach."

You may not! You’re smart. You probably could read up on it and figure it out for yourself. But let’s be very clear…you’re here because you know there is a part of you that is wanting help, guidance. I know it was hard for me to ask for help.

Look, I didn’t think I needed help learning how to coach or be an entrepreneur. I didn’t think I needed help learning to be an actor, photographer, or public speaker. I didn’t think I needed help learning how to throw a disc and playing disc golf. And, to be quite honest, I think I probably could have figured out how to read, write, and do math on my own, as well!

But here’s what I realized…

When I finally committed to asking for help and investing in a teacher, a mentor, or a coach, I shaved off years in my learning curve. Having a coach allowed me to be more effective and efficient with my time, energy, money, and my resources.

Being coached gave me immediate access to information and knowledge. They were able to see my blindspots, hold me accountable, and see me through to the finish line.

I’m sure if you reflect on your own life you can see the value when you were taught, mentored or coached.

The difference is with this work, being coached also allowed me to heal, release, let go and breathe again. Out of my head and back into my body. Being more present. Having a healthier relationship with myself.

Life still happens and I go through my shit. But because of this practice, I no longer carry the heaviness of it all. It’s a different kind of liberation everyone should be able to experience.

The question(s) then become, why wouldn’t you invest in coaching for your own Emotional Intelligence? Why wouldn’t you want coaching and guidance to live your best life possible? And be able to do it in less time?

"What if I don't have the money for coaching?"

I get it. You got rent or a mortgage to pay. Food and gas cost more. The cost of living is harder to maintain. Inflation is rapidly rising and your raises just aren’t enough to keep up. Again, I understand.

Payment plans can be made to make it more accessible.

But really what you're talking about is cost. The cost of coaching versus the cost of your emotional and mental wellbeing.

Let’s play that out…the pay off for not investing in coaching is that you save money. What it’s costing you is your happiness, your joy, your passions. It could cost you your job, your relationships, your loves, your sanity.

So the questions really are, what’s more cost effective? What’s my opportunity cost? The price your paying vs. what you are paying for. What do I value more?

"What if I don't trust coaches?"

Right off the bat, you shouldn’t! Trust is something that is earned.

Unfortunately, in my own experiences and from what I’ve seen out there, there are some ‘coaches’ that should not be coaching at all! There are other coaches that are well intended, but lack frameworks to be an effective coach. There are a lot of great coaches out there too, but you have to do the work to find them.

Most legit coaches will have an initial meeting or ‘Discovery Call’ to meet with potential clients.

I refer to my initial meetings as a ‘Vibe Check’. Because for me, that’s exactly what it is. It’s an opportunity for us to get a feel for each other to see if there is a potential match.

As much as it is for a coach to make assessments during these meetings, it’s also an opportunity for you to ask questions to see if there is a good fit for you. It’s also an opportunity to see if you vibe with that person and more importantly, that you feel safe.

In order to do deep, powerful and transformative work, it will require a level of courage and vulnerability.

You will need a coach that will provide a container and safe space to explore in that vulnerability. You need a person that you feel comfortable with to help guide you on your journey.

This work is deep and is not for the meek or weak of heart. You need someone who is willing to walk those depths and stand in the fire with you. One who is intentional about your wellbeing, keeps you accountable and is committed to seeing you win and achieve your successes.

"I've tried coaching before and it didn't work."

Coaching is no different than any other person you higher for services. I can’t tell you how many different dentists, doctors, graphic designers, etc. or even coaches I went through before I found one that I was in alignment with.

Coaches have different philosophies and approaches, methods and frameworks. You may have not found one that works best for you.

That’s why it’s important for you to ask intentional questions during the ‘Discovery Call’ process to help you determine whether or not your coach is in alignment with your needs.

If you’ve had multiple coaches that didn’t work, all that really means is that those coaches haven’t been able to identify what your blocks or unintentional blind spots are in receiving effective coaching.

“What sets you apart from other coaches?”

Part of my philosophy is rooted in Bruce Lee's philosophy, "style without style". Which means rejecting traditional, rigid martial arts styles in favor of a flexible, adaptive approach to self-expression and combat.

Through my years of studying and researching different modalities and practices, I’ve taken different parts of each that are within my own alignment and have compiled them into a simple, yet powerful set of principles, framework, and practices.

This simple framework will serve as a foundation for you to build off of. It allows you an opportunity to explore your own individuality and what it means to live in fuller expression. It will provide you a clear direction, a model and practice to make powerful choices that allow you to overcome your fears, get over your shit, and create the impact you know you are capable of.

This framework has the adaptability to meet you where you are at. In other words, this is not a ‘cookie-cutter’ approach.

No matter where you’re at in your life. No matter what you’re feeling at this moment. This framework gives you a firm foundation for you to put your foot on. Help you to feel grounded so you can start to climb out from whatever ‘rabbit-hole’ you find yourself in.

I provide a safe space for you to confidently explore on your journey. A space for you to find your nuances so you can develop your own practice that is in alignment with your goals, your passions, your expressions.

I’m like a Sherpa for Your Soul!

I am very passionate about what I do and take coaching seriously. I am very intentional about your success. Your wins are my wins. And when we win, the world wins. It allows me to continue to pursue part of my mission in making sure more people know about what emotional intelligence is and why it’s important to have as an EQ practice. It provides me a platform to coach more people and create impact in the world.

In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that this EQ practice will help you get to the other side of what challenges you may be experiencing and allow you to breathe again. You just get to make a powerful choice.

It’s that important!

“How does coaching differ from therapy?”

Coaching usually entails identifying a goal and keeping you accountable in attaining that goal.

Therapy, in general, helps you to identify what you may be feeling and experiencing. It can help to identify the source of those feelings and provide you tools to help you work through those feelings and emotions.

If Coaching and Therapy had a baby, that’s where I would be.

I help you identify your Northstar, help you work through your emotional blocks and keep you accountable to your goals. It’s deep work that can heal traumas and release triggers through assigned practices and somatic work.

“Who is the ideal client?”

This work is for anyone and everyone. If you happen to be an artist, creative, and activist, in a leadership position, that’s great. If you are BIPOC, even better. At the core, that is who I am. So let’s roll up our sleeves, get it done, and get to creating some serious impact!

But really I thrive with with anyone who is ready to go all in! That is committed to doing the work. The ones who acknowledge their fears but also have enough courage to say ‘Yes!’ for themselves.

The clients I work with that demonstrated that level of willingness, courage, and commitment were the ones that achieved the quickest success and impact in their lives.

What you get to understand is that this has been a quest ultimately to make a powerful choice. And learning to make more powerful choices from a healthy, grounded state. Your ability to choose is a blessing and can be as impactful as you want it to be.

What you get to understand is that if you go ‘ALL IN’ you will see results. It may go beyond what it is you seek. It may even guide you to new passions.

What you get to understand is that this is a practice. It’s not a ‘silver bullet’ that fixes your life. This is a practice. A lifestyle change. And if you commit whole-heartedly to that lifestyle change, I guarantee your life will change too!

“Marking’s approach was highly practical and tailored to my life. It was a little bit of everything - theory and research and life experiences — it was about applying tools in real-time situations and seeing immediate results, which made the work feel tangible and impactful.”
